Water Kefir Instructions
Making your first batch of water kefir!
What you'll need:
2 Tbsp organic brown sugar. You can use any sugar but brown sugar is best for mineral content
One mineral of your choice, only choose one!
clean egg shell, pinch of sea salt, pinch of baking soda, or one tablespoon of molasses (its best to switch up the mineral you choose from time to time.)
1 quart jar
2 cups of spring water
2 Tbsp of kefir grains
1. Prepare your water by heating it slightly to dissolve the sugar. Add mineral choice and let cool.
2. Add entire contents of your bag of grains.
3. Cover jar with paper towel & rubber band.
4. Let sit for about 2 days
5. Now your kefir is done! Strain the grains from the juice using a mesh (plastic) strainer. I put the strainer over a new, clean jar so my kefir water goes into the jar and my grains are caught in the strainer and can be used for a new batch of kefir. As your kefir grains grow and multiply, you will adjust the sugar and water ratios.
You can drink the kefir like this, but many people enjoy it more after its been chilled or flavored. I like to make Kefir Lemonade by adding slices of fresh lemons or lemon juice and letting it chill for a few hours.
